There are numerous ways of travelling around Bosnia and Herzegovina - by car, bus and train. Many bus companies offer routes to locations throughout the country. The train schedule is less extensive, but does offer a few good trips at very modest prices. Car rental is available from local and international companies. Taxis also serve the cities and are generally reliable and cheap.

By bus |
Local bus system functions well and there are bus routes to and from all towns and even the small villages have some sort of bus connection. Every city and town has a bus station where tickets are sold and daily departure and arrival times posted in local language on the station's wall. Bus travel is inexpensive and comfortable and offers some beautiful scenery on the way.

You can buy ticket at the station, but you can also get one on the bus if there are seats left. Usually there is an extra charge of 1 or 2 KM for each large bag you carry with you. |

By car |
Travelling by car is a decent option throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina . Road conditions significantly improved in the last few years, there are few dual carriageways, but the main roads are satisfactory. Work has started on certain sections of the Pan-European Corridor 5c Motorway, Budapest - Osijek - Sarajevo - Ploce, which will connect Bosnia and Herzegovina to main European traffic network. |
Travelling by car also offer some magnificent scenery along the routes. Petrol is easily available as there are many petrol stations along the roads. If you need road assistance, the Bosnia and Herzegovina Auto Club (BIHAMK) Emergency Service (open 24/7) will help you. Their telephone number is 1282 or (033) 1282 if outside Sarajevo area. BIHAMK's Information Centre is open every day from 6am to 6pm. |

The train network in Bosnia and Herzegovina is not as extensive as the bus network, but does offer a few really good trips in comfortable trains at very modest prices. The route most commonly used by tourists is from Sarajevo to Mostar, which has two daily trains, both of these continue to Ploce on the Croatia coast. |
