The Kozara National Park is situated in Krajina, the northwest region of Bosnia and Herzegovina .
The area was proclaimed a protected national forest in 1967.
Situated between the rivers Una, Sava, Sana and Vrbas, the park encompasses thick conifer forests, valleys, and meadows with green pastures and mountain springs spread over 33.75 square kilometres.
It is a popular hunting spot with over 18,000 hectares of regulated hunting grounds with a wide range of game. It also offers more relaxing activities for nature lovers, such as photo safaris, walking, hiking, biking and herb picking.
Kozara was also a former battleground during the WWII. There is a memorial on Mrakovica, the top of the mountain Kozara, dedicated to the victims from this region.
The National Park offers limited accommodation facilities. There are restaurants, cafes and sports grounds and the Park offers organized visits to nearby churches and monasteries, and local excursions.
