Bosnia and Herzegovina is awaiting a decision on negotiations about bringing the first no-frills airlines to the country.
Currently only British Airways operates direct flight from the UK to the country's capital Sarajevo, three times a week from Gatwick. Other services link through Budapest, Vienna and Zagreb but an increase in airlift is seen as necessary if the country is to grow its inbound tourism.
Tour operators at the WTM tourism exhibition in London held earlier this month were told negotiations are underway between Sarajevo airport and some no-frills airlines. There are also talks with other regional airports including Mostar.
Exhibiting for the first time at the WTM, Bosnia and Herzegovina was promoting its winter sports facilities, culture, natural landscape, religious sites and history. The country also has 28 miles of coast on the Adriatic and its only beach resort Neum which has 5,000 beds.
