Sarajevo Film Festival’s new project - Sarajevo City of Film

07.12.2007

Following the successful completion of the first edition of the Sarajevo Talent Campus, Sarajevo Film Festival's new educational program aimed at providing specialized and expert training for young filmmakers of South-eastern Europe , the Festival announced yesterday the launching of a new project - Sarajevo City of Film.

With Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Government as its partner, providing the initial support, Sarajevo Film Festival is creating a Fund as basis for the Sarajevo City of Film Project, which will give the participants of the Sarajevo Talent Campus the opportunity to create low-budget short films (features, documentaries or animated films) inspired by the City of Sarajevo.

The cooperation between the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Government and Sarajevo Film Festival on this project was announced by the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nedzad Brankovic, and the Federal Minister of Culture and Sports Gavrilo Grahovac, at a reception organised by the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Government during the 13th Sarajevo Film Festival and in the honour of the 1st Sarajevo Talent Campus. This form of support for young film talents was welcomed also by the Director of the Berlin International Film Festival Dieter Kosslick, one of the 13th SFF guests of honour.

The participants of the 1st Sarajevo Talent Campus will apply for grants as production teams made up of three core members: a producer, a director and an actor, coming from at least two different countries. In this way, the Sarajevo Film Festival will encourage the collaboration of young artists whose work is the future of this region's cinema. The Sarajevo City of Film Fund would allow a minimum of four grants to teams of Campus and create an opportunity for them to show their knowledge and skills in realization of a film project.

Sarajevo Film Festival further hopes to gain the involvement of Ministries of Culture and Sports from the countries of the region, commercial companies with awareness of the importance of cultural development, TV companies, Film Funds and other relevant investors involved in film and TV industry.

Open call for participation in Sarajevo City of Film project will be announced in December of 2007 and remain open for applications until 01.02.2008. Project selection will be conducted by a board of film professionals from B&H and abroad. Selected projects will be announced in February of 2008. Selected projects will be realized in the period from 01.03.2008 to 01.07.2008 in Sarajevo.

The presentation and promotion of completed projects will take place during the 2nd Sarajevo Talent Campus and within the 14th Sarajevo Film Festival (15-23 August 2008).
