The ambassadors of the Peace Implementation Committee decided in Brussels on Friday for Miroslav Lajcak, a director at the Slovakian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to replace the current High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schwarz-Schilling.
The appointment will be officially confirmed on June 18. Lajcak will have to pass the so called joined action process by the EU. He will take over his new duty on June 26. In his last report, Schwarz-Schilling asked EU member states not to neglect Bosnia and Herzegovina and to do everything they can to integrate the country in the EU.
He believes that new constitutional changes should regulate the right of veto. The EU is not completely satisfied with Schwarz-Schilling's work in Bosnia and Herzegovina and believes that he could have done much more in the last 18 months.
