Bosnia & Herzegovina gets study on sustainable tourism

22.01.2008

Recognizing that tourism sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina is especially attractive and important for the development of the country, the EBRD and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs supported the B&H Government and the Chamber of Foreign Trade in the project to write a comprehensive study on tourism. The Study, a detailed survey examining the possibilities of tourism sector's development was carried by the Orgalis/Bceom consultancy from France and presented today in Sarajevo.

The Study is aimed to promote sustainable investments into tourism and real estate industry in the country.
The tourism sector indicates a number of attractive areas and opportunities for investors, especially with respect to winter and youth tourism, nature parks, sports, religious, spa and agro tourism.
Director of Bceom/Orgalis Consultancy Philippe Lebrasseur, stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina is suitable for investments just like any other country in the world. International skiing and spa tourism are the topics most talked about lately. He added that Medjugorje has an underestimated tourist potential.
”Return on investment is what interests the investors the most. Bjelasnica, Jahorina and Medjugorje are the three most talked about projects in tourist sector of Bosnia and Herzegovina”, Lebrasseur stated. He added that on a scale 1 to 5, 1.5 is the current mark of B&H tourism.
Goran Brckalovic, B&H Foreign Trade Chamber's Department of Tourism Secretary stated that the development of this study started last March.
”This study is aimed to attract foreign investments. Nine locations have been determined that are in accordance to the demands of ecologic, special and urban planning”, Brckalovic emphasized.
